Students interested in a SUSTAINS internship should contact Dr. Lazar at mklazar@pitt.edu or 412-648-7210
The goal of SUSTAINS is for undergraduates in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) who share a commitment to sustainable practices to gain experience working with young students and, through reflection on those experiences, consider education as a career choice. The theme of SUSTAINS is environment and sustainability. Also, K-12 students participating in SUSTAINS will better understand their own interaction with the environment and the enduring positive impact sustainable practices create. Both undergraduates and young students will apply scientific thinking and processes to define and explore environmental issues, pursue innovative solutions or define appropriate sustainable choices, and share their knowledge with others. SUSTAINS projects may even extend into the community to foster an environmental consciousness and improve sustainable practices in Pittsburgh neighborhoods.
